I just want to give a special shout out to McLain’s Market! We featured their cake in our Veil Events photoshoot and it turned out amazing! I have to say, that it also tasted as good as it looks! They also have some amazing macarons which are my favorite dessert! If you are in the Lawrence or Kansas City area, you must check them out!
McLain’s Bakery has been around since 1945. It not unusual to hear our current brides say their parents got their wedding cake at McLain’s Bakery back in the day. It was the prime spot to get your wedding cake! McLain’s Bakery has been through different owners. The Hirlemans took over in 2014 and have really expanded the business! In 2016 they opened a second location in Overland Park, Kansas. Naming it McLain’s Market as the original location could not be replicated. Business at that location quickly picked up and has been nonstop since it opened. The Lawrence location was opened in the summer of 2018. Located right off campus it has become an ideal spot for students to gather for a quick coffee and pastry on their way to class. Offering a variety of pastries, entrees, and even wedding cakes! McLain’s Market Lawrence is quickly becoming a staple in Lawrence.
McLain’s Market Lawrence wedding cakes are the same recipes you would have found back in the day but with a modern twist in design. Specializing in buttercream wedding cakes but offering a variety of designs, looks and flavors! We offer complimentary tastings where a cake decorator will meet with the couple gathering details and making sure all their wishes comes true! We love when brides bring in their Pinterest board ideas whether they are sure of their design or are looking for a little help. We can work with them to finalize all details in a timely manner without the pressure and stress weddings can cause!
Personally I have been with McLain’s for three years. I made the move from assistant cake manager to cake manager when I made the move to Lawrence. When I was asked if I wanted to help open the Lawrence location I was beyond trilled! Growing up in Lawrence I knew there was nothing like it and knew it would quickly grow into a local favorite. I gained my experience in college, I attended Johnson County Community College where I completed the Pastry Program but did most of my wedding cake learning through McLain’s Bakery.
